The Florida Academy of Audiology is hosting a “Day on the Hill” in Tallahassee on Wednesday
January 10th from 8 am to 5pm where we will spend a full day meeting with state legislators to advise them of legislation/issues pertinent to audiology and those we serve.
Our past visits to the Hill have resulted in tremendous victories for audiologists and individuals with hearing loss in the state of Florida.
Here are some of the recent highlights:
– Implementing more favorable language and ultimately 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 a bill that would have restricted the use of the term “doctor” by audiologists in Florida
– Creation of The Children’s Hearing Aid Program (CHAP), a 5 million dollar annually recurring fund that provides hearing aids, cochlear implant processors, and bone conduction processors to Florida children under age 18 who do not have coverage under their insurance for these devices
– Passage of a bill requiring newborn screening for congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) in FL
– Increased funding for auditory-oral programs in the state
