Provisional Licensure

Provisional Licensure for Florida Externs

Licensure is currently required in all fifty states. Licensure laws vary by state and are determined by the governor and the legislative body of the state. Some states, including Florida, allow for provisional licensing of fourth year students. In order to obtain a provisional license, fourth year students must complete an application and provide necessary documents the Florida Department of Health. Required documents include Verification of Employment Form, an official transcript, verification of the completion of an HIV/AIDS course, and verification of completion of medical errors course. There is a $180 fee that must be included with application materials. Having a provisional license streamlines the process to full licensure upon the completion of the externship year.
