Spotlight on Audiologist Dan Gardner M.S. in St. Petersburg, Florida

Daniel Gardner, M.S., Audiologist

What university did you attend for graduate school and what year did you graduate?

University of South Florida. Earned Audiology degree in 1975.

Where do you currently work and what are your specialties?

I am CEO of Gardner Audiology, a 35 year Tampa Bay company with 5 locations. My specialties and passions are program development and hearing healthcare delivery systems.

Why did you become an audiologist?

I suffered an eye and ear injury while on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Prior to being admitted into the Naval hospital in Jacksonville I wanted to study oceanography. The Navy doctors befriended me, taught me how to test hearing and I enjoyed helping their patients. After discharge from the Navy I returned to U.S.F. and earned a degree in audiology.

What is your favorite part of Audiology?

My patients and my employees are an extended family for me. I have both a rewarding home and work life because of this.

Like many of other audiologists I am inspired by the young people who are entering my profession. My company has been a training site for audiology doctoral students from Lamar University, West Virginia University and the University of South Florida.

Why did you join FLAA?

I joined FLAA because I wanted access to world class continuing education and it affords me the ability to network with my peers.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Kayaking, fishing, bicycle riding, photography, airplanes, gardening and family time.
